Females will sometimes cannibalize males, especially during breeding season. Adults are able to consume much larger animals, including deer, capybara, caimans and large birds. Juveniles tend to eat fish, birds and small mammals. They are opportunistic apex predators and eat a wide variety of prey. Green anacondas have slow metabolisms, and with the exception of breeding females, only need to eat once every few weeks. ![]() Like most snakes, they can detach their jaw to swallow prey much larger then themselves, though they are careful to weigh the risk of injury with large prey. They use their strong jaws to capture their prey, then use their muscular bodies to suffocate the prey before swallowing it whole. Like all reptiles, anacondas tire quickly,” Rivas said.Īnacondas are nonvenomous snakes that use constriction to kill their prey. The 300-page book features numerous photographs, including ones of Rivas involving Highlands University students in his anaconda field research in Venezuela. “The more we know about endangered anacondas and their place in the ecosystem, the better the chance we can conserve them,” Rivas said. I want to share my love of anacondas because people will only protect what they love. “My biggest goal with this book is to convey my experience learning about anacondas and their lives,” Rivas said. The walk to the park-and-ride would probably be about 10 minutes, considering waiting at a crosswalk on a busy road. Using the IRS mileage reimbursement rate of 65.5 cents/mile and figuring that's about right to cover fuel, vehicle price, and maintenance, we're looking at about $5.90 each way (it may actually be a little less due to a fuel efficient vehicle, but it's in the ballpark). Driving from my house to the mall is 9 miles, with surface streets and lights probably about 12-15 minutes. I live about three blocks from a park and ride south of the river. It tends to be worse around the green line (i live in st paul) so i avoid any stops around lrt stops but ive never had any major issues j riding the bus Ive also found it to be pretty safe as long as youre mindful about your surroundings and keep to yourself. It can be a bit of a hassle if youre going somewhere far away but i can get to work, the grocery store, restaurants, or friends’ homes in 20 minutes from where i live.Īs others have said you’ll have to be more mindful about where you live and work, i had a 45 minute commute up until a month ago and my life is much better now that i live closer to work, but it was certainly doable. I think its a pretty comprehensive system bus routes run on major streets, which is also where businesses are. If theyre a good employer they wont care how you get to work, j that you do. My bosses havent cared, and have even commented that I get to work more reliably than some of my coworkers with cars. Ive been car free for the past two years and I’ve only had the bus affect my ability to work once, when a bunch of snow melted then froze overnight causing all bus routes to be canceled for a fee hours. Most employers will encourage people to use transit so they have one less person worrying about parking so that shouldn’t be a concern at all The twin cities are great and the future of the transit system is still bright despite a rough last few years. I bike from NE Minneapolis to the green line to Saint Paul for my commute and can make that trip nearly as fast as driving and it’s much more reliable compared to traffic issues I run into when I drive. I can not recommend combining biking with transit as an option enough to people though. The system is not super comprehensive though and car free living can be tough unless you’re really close to either downtown/uptown. There also seems to finally be some momentum on doing something about those issues too. The light rail and some of the enclosed bus stations have seen a lot of issues since covid but as a daily green line rider through all of that time it really has been better this winter than the last few years. Metro transit has its issues as people have pointed out here but the system still works pretty well overall and I really think it’s future plans are great and will increase the usefulness of the system immensely. The cities are pretty sprawled out so getting out to the suburbs is a bit of a challenge on MT. If you can find a spot on a main line you should be good to go. Busses are much better and I never feel unsafe however compared to other cities, the on time rate seems to be much lower here if you have a connecting route you need to catch. The last time I took it to the airport, there was a crack head smoking a cigarette right in front me who then proceeded to piss her pants. I will not board the light rail basically east of Snelling due to the number if incidences on the platforms. Its gotten much better but with the driver shortages (reduced routes=longer wait times) and the Light Rail (avoid at all costs) it seems to have taken a turn for the worst the past few years. ![]() I have found MN to be one of the least efficient that I've experienced.
